Donald Trump said at a rally in Ohio this week that COVID-19 affects “virtually nobody” saying that it has affected nobody young. Unfortunately for 109 children that have died from the caronoavirus, that isn’t true. The Children’s Hospital Association has been tracking cases and mortality in Children and publishes a comprehensive report weekly. As of September 17, 2020, they have reported 587,948 COVID-19 cases in children and 109 deaths.

On April 16, 2020, children made up 2% of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S. Of the September 17th report, children account for 10.3% of the cumulitive number of child cases.

“It affects elderly people, elderly people with heart problems and other problems. That’s what it really affects,” the president said. “In some states, thousands of people — nobody young. Below the age of 18, like, nobody. They have a strong immune system, who knows? Take your hat off to the young, because they have a hell of an immune system. But it affects virtually nobody. It’s an amazing thing.”
